From Solicitor:
"Includes many projects that are a part of the East River Waterfront
redevelopment in NYC. One part includes a pier with a second-level deck
that has approximately 96,000 linear feet of 3”x3” hardwood
decking, and another 5,000 linear feet of hardwood decking on its lower
level. In addition, we are using wood along 2,500 linear feet of guardrail
and in the design of our outdoor furniture.
1) On the upper level deck, the 3”x3” wood slats are to be
self-supported above nailers approximately 3’0” apart.
2) The pier is one piece of a much larger esplanade project, so the railing
and furniture details and material choices that we make now will be applied
to the rest of our waterfront designs.
3) We will also be looking for information on seasonal availability, lead
times, and the cost difference between FSC certified and non-FSC certified
products."
In answer to our question, "type of wood":
"Preferrably Ipe, but would also like quotes on similar types
such as African Ekki and Tali, as well as the South American Masserenduba."
